ok ok.. I didn't post yesterday, exactly one day after I promised I'd post everyday. It's not that i didn't want to, it's just that I was hung over. Anyway, I've got two songs today to make up for it.

The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love (yousendit file)

Remember a few years back when The Strokes where supposed to save rock'n'roll? Well around the same time The Rapture was getting similar attention. With songs like this one, the title track from their new album, I'd say the attention was deserved. It's another example supporting my belief that DFA never ever ever ever fucks up.

The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health ( Ratatat Remix) (yousendit)
Stina Nordenstam - Parliament Square (The Knife Remix) (yousendit)

Both these songs are by no means anything new in the blogosphere. I'm posting them because i feel they compliment The Rapture track in a unique sort of way. The mp3 blog game is getting too crowded anyway.

Finally: Marmaduke Coles Notes.

I'm going to start getting into a routine here and put up at least one post every weekday. You'll have to start checking this shit on the regular. It's still very much a work in progress, so don't be alarmed if things look odd everytime you stop by.

I went to see the Chuck D lecture at Algonquin last night. The man certainly knows how to control a crowd.

Chuck D: So you're a Royals fan?
Zane in awe: Uhhhhh yeah.

That was my conversation with Chuck D, word for word. I'll never forget it.

Other accomplishments yesterday include finding some sweet glasses and acid stained levis at Value Village, and finally getting The Exchange Sessions.

Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid - Soul Oscillations (click link)

To the few people that read this; Please send my an email or post a comment to say what you think or if you've got something that you think I'd like.

The Last two CBC Radio 3 podcasts have been the best I've heard in a while. For a minute I thought Grant had lost it but my faith has since been restored. The Blocks Recording Company (mentioned by Owen Pallett in #70) has a whole bunch of mp3s on their releases page, all of which are worth checking out. Here are some highlights featuring the Polaris Music Prize winner himself.

Les Mouches- Close to You (mp3)

The Blankket - Hey Ya! (mp3)

Covering the Carpenters is nothing new, but Outkast! I'm supprised that song has been done by more people.

There's no 'U' in community!

Summer's gone. It left without saying goodbye. Sitting here with my scarf and jacket beside me, looking at that picture of Party Byron and Lovefoxxx, I almost feel like someone died.

Mount Eerie - Uh Oh! It's Mourning Time Again

I guess it's time to accept it. Autumn isn't so bad. If you can look past all the sad serious faces you might notice that it's actually kind on pretty outside.

Okkervil River - Red

Summer of 2006, I miss you

Will Oldham was on Conan a couple days ago. Culture Bully has the

And yes that is Andrew WK.

Beirut -Postcards from Italy October 5th @ Zaphods
Akron/Family - Running, Returning and Born Ruffians-This sentence will ruin/save your life. October 6th @ 1st Baptist Church

My biggest fear is that both of the blog loved bands (brought to you by the letter 'B') won't live up to the hype - ie Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. However, if all goes well, these two nights will make up for the lack of shows I got to see this summer. I'll even overlook the fact that Ottawa is misspelled on the Akron/Family website.

Old Bull Lee has fascinated me since the first time I read On The Road. I was 14 years old, and of course the book changed my life - just like it did for Robert Zimmerman and everyone else.

So here is Pook, the Destroyer; another reason why I'm a just little bit crazy.

William S Burroughs - Ah! Pook is Here (mp3) (watch here)

Damien Jurado, as an artist is bi-polar. He has written countless worthwhile songs that are often overlooked, hidden behind stacks his sub par releases. There is such thing as being too prolific(see Will Oldham) and Jurado definately is.

Damien Jurado - Medication (click the link and download from there)

That said, in this song: the musician, the writer, and the voice shine. It paints the picture of an every man, with his crazy brother and his lover undercover and her cop husband. The lead man is tied down, probably in a small town, taking care of everyone else but himself. It's the simple, implied passion echoing throughout the song that makes it a story worthy of Elliott Smith, and perhaps even Dylan. If only there were more songs like these from Damien Jurado.

This is the second most played song on my itunes. I'm not going to tell you the first, that will come later. And Now That I'm In Your Shadow, has four demos recorded over the phone. Buy his music here.

Things change. People change. Time rolls on. I deleted my myspace account last week and I've been a mess ever since. I'll admit it; I wasn't ready. I'll even admit I acted in haste. They say the first step when you're a habitual myspace user (/loser) is admitting you have a problem, and I do. It's been a week and, aside from this strange empty feeling deep in my soul, I think I'm doing ok. Maybe all need something to fill the void.

And this is how Ok! I Help. came to be. Consider it your niece or nephew: check in on it everyday, look over it's shoulder as it grows up, and show it some comment love. I wouldn't even complain if at Christmas you send cards with 50 dollar bills in them. Eventually I will be packing my bags and heading over to the new Braap!! , as soon as Jon decides he's ready, but until then: enjoy.

shooby taylor - lift every voice and sing (mp3)

This song has grown on me so much that I refuse to think that anyone could hate it. The mesmerizing scat, the baseball stadium organ, the simplicity, the title for christ's sake - it's seemless as far as I can tell. Listen carefully to the rally cry and tell me it isn't something special. I dare you.

Shooby Taylor was a scat musician and new york city postman, check his website for more on his interesting story and more mp3s
